The SPHC Logo - What It Represents

Since our establishment in 1986, the Society for the Promotion of Hospice Care has used the logo of the three birds. The design was inspired by migratory birds as they fly in a V-formation to seek out breeding or wintering grounds each year. This formation has a very special purpose: it creates uplift, allowing the entire flock to travel a much greater distance than if each bird flew on its own. Migratory birds also look after the weak or wounded, as the journey becomes much more difficult without their contribution.

This type of behavior perfectly embodies the spirit of SPHC. Our profession is often physically and emotionally demanding but, like migratory birds, we must remember to support and stand by one another as we work towards our common goal – to provide the best hospice and palliative care for our patients and their families.
